Serenget National park is
Tanzania's most popular national park, also a
world heritage site and recently proclaimed a
7th world wide wonder, the Serengeti is f
amed
for its annual migration, when some six million
hooves pound the open plains, as more than
200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join
the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet
even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti
offers arguably the most scintillating
game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo,
smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and
thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni,
impala and Grant’s gazelle.
- Day 13 Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater
Via Olduvai gorge

the crater by a 4wheel drive vehicle.

the Ngorongoro Simba Public/Kudu campsite

-
- The Ngorongoro crater is the world’s
biggest whole volcanic caldera at 8300 sq km
and is arguably the most stunning arena. It
is frequently described as one of the
wonders of the world, not only because of
its geological magnificence, but also
because it serves as an extraordinary
natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s
largest populations of large mammals.
Ngorongoro and other freestanding mountains
are volcanic in origin, formed during the
fracturing process that created the Rift
valley 15 to 20 million years ago. When it
peaked in size 3 million years ago it was a
similar height to Mt. Kilimanjaro today
